An Introduction to NCDAE's Fact Sheet on Macromedia Breeze

What is NCDAE?

The National Center on Disability and Access to Education (NCDAE), a partner with WebAIM, monitors and promotes electronically-mediated distance education policies and practices that enhance the lives of people with disabilities and their families.

What are Fact Sheets?

NCDAE is working to develop fact sheets that detail various technologies and tools used within distance education. These fact sheets will list the accessibility of these technologies and include known work-arounds or implications that should be considered when using these technologies to deliver distance education.

The first of these fact sheets addresses the accessibility of Macromedia Breeze. It is available at http://ncdae.org/tools/factsheets/breeze.cfm.

What is Breeze?

Macromedia Breeze is a web communications system. It has two main components:

  • Breeze Meeting, which is used to deliver live communication with synchronized audio and video, as well as text chat.
  • Breeze Presenter, which uses a PowerPoint plug-in to create standalone presentations for the web.

If you want to know more, please read the NCDAE Breeze fact sheet.

Who are These Fact Sheets For?

The fact sheet is intended for anyone interested in accessibility and distance education. The language in the fact sheets is intended to be less technical, so they can be valuable to a greater number of people.

How Should it Be Used?

This fact sheet should serve a few purposes:

  1. It introduces a technology and lists a few of the accessibility strengths and weaknesses.
  2. It lists known accessibility issues of specific technologies and suggests work-arounds within and outside the technology.
  3. It is meant to be a dynamic document with new thoughts and new ideas added by others.
