I tried to hit the key for the number of times for the heading level
but I couldn't get it to work, it just took me down as many headings
as I clicked which works for me since I go to the same sites a lot
and know how many headings are there before the main content. I
actually hold down the h key rather than tabbing as there is
less stress on my carpal tunnel.

Look at the method described by Hamish Mackenzie in this thread for
navigating through headings. There is a bug in at least JAWS 10 and 11
where JAWS misreports the number of headings in both Internet Explorer 7 and
8 as well as Firefox 3.x. Sometimes, JAWS says that there are no headings
on a page even though the page summary reports multiple headings. Other
times, the summary underreports the number of headings on a page. The usual
way to get around the bug is to use the ctrl+end keystroke to go to the end
of the page and start back up at the top by pressing ctrl+home. This
appears to reset whatever the reporting issue is. There are times when this
does not work. So far, I've not been able to discern any patterns to this
behavior.
