> In celebration of Disability Awareness Month, George Mason
> University's Assistive Technology Initiative (ATI), in collaboration
> with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) and the Office of Equity
> and Diversity Services (OEDS), is hosting /a /"Technology for Access,
> Employment, and Learning"/ / Showcase on October 12-13, 2010 between
> 10am and 5:00pm. This two-day event will be organized as follows:

> _*Day One (Tues, Oct. 12th)*_ - This day will be similar to a
> traditional disability services fair. Emphasis will be on the
> adaptive technology, community resources, and transition from k-12:

> Adaptive technologies that support individuals with disabilities in
> the classroom, in the workplace, and at home (i.e., screen-reading
> software, augmentative communication aids, tools for daily living,
> reading/writing tools, etc.)

> * Community resources supporting individuals with disabilities
> * Transition for students with disabilities from k-12 to
> post-secondary education
> * Transition for students with disabilities from k-12 to employment
> * Accessible gaming

> _*Day Two (Wed, Oct. 13th)*_ - This day will emphasize technology that
> addresses the need for infrastructure changes as it relates to
> accessibility. Emphasis will also be on supporting individuals with
> disabilities in post-secondary education and employment:

> * Universal Design
> * Ergonomics
> * Document accessibility
> * Section 508/Web accessibility
> * Employment resources for individuals with disabilities
> * Adaptive technologies that support individuals with disabilities
> at school and at work
> * Transition for students with disabilities from post-secondary
> education to employment

> In addition to seeking presenters on the topics listed above, we're
> also seeking exhibitors with interactive displays, technology
> demonstrations, etc. -- something for participants to actively learn
> or work with -- as we're hoping to engage everyone in a festive event
> that keeps participants actively flowing between the showcase and the
> presentations for an extended period. You are welcome to participate
> in one day or both, whichever works for your organization.
