Some of this is discussed here:
http://www.liquid-internet.co.uk/content/dynamic/pages/series1article1.aspx
It's a rather involved article--beyond what most would want to take on.
Also, beware that the source code is licensed under GNU GPL, which may not
be palatable for some.

Subject: asp.net code validation
When using asp.net, code is returned to the browser that appears invalid
when checking the page with a HTML validator (W3C, WDG). Specifically, the
"_" and trailing "/" characters that are generated by the IsPostBack
function are showing up during validation. This is the sample page I am
referring to: http://www.gcflearnfree.org/development/ed/aspnet/test1.aspx
Has anyone found a way (other than abandoning the use of .Net) to resolve
this issue? Is there a special page declaration needed?
Thanks,
Mark Bryant
