The following url http://lcb.uoregon.edu locks up both jaws 4.5 and 5.1.
The symptoms are that the page starts to read normally, but then jaws
silences and says a word every ten seconds or so. At that point,
control of the pc is lost. Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you, James

I've had similar issues (by the sound of it, anyway...don't have Jaws
here at home to test) with the work site I developed www.salford.ac.uk

On my site, it turned out to be some issue with the stylesheet. Despite
numerous attempts, I couldn't isolate what it was exactly that caused
the problem, and it really looked like it was an erratic behaviour on
the part of IE and how it interfaces with Jaws...or something. A
colleague of mine contacted Freedom Scientific, but we never received
any clear answer.

I just spoke to the freedom Scientific technical support regarding this
matter and also gave them the link http://lcb.uoregon.eduu They clamed
that the issue is with IE. I don't know how far that answer is accurate.
But I am having that same problem on my computer as well, where it starts
pausing after half the page. I tested the same web site with JAWS 4.51 and
5.0 and had no success.

Regards.
Sachin

Interestingly, I don't have any problems using Window-Eyes 4.5 on this
page. Of course, this probably is not much comfort if you are using
JAWS...

I get failure consistently with JAWS 5.0 right around the picture with
the alt-text "Students build leadership through rope climbing course",
which also identifies this image as a mouse over. I am wondering if the
function hideMenus - which is called on line 290 - may be causing this
issue (as it appears to be referenced right when JAWS seems to lock up).

Sorry - don't have any other ideas.

Take care,
Sean

The following steps, provided by Freedom Scientific, corrected the
situation. Thanks to all who contacted me. - James

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support. Try
taking the steps below and see if this resolve your issue. If not, let
me know the operating system in use and the synthesizer in use with Jaws.

1. Pull up the Jaws window (insert+j)
2. Activate the options menu (alt+o)
3. press the letter b to open the basics dialog
4. Activate the system parameters dialog (alt+p)
5. Tab to:
ignore colors specified on web pages
and press the spacebar to check this option followed by enter
6. Tab to okay and hit enter.

Now, see if this resolve your issue. If not, try the procedure below:
While in internet explorer:
1. Activate the tools menu (alt+t)
2. Press the letter o to open the internet options dialog
3. Tab over to the delete file button and hit nter
4. Press the spacebar to check all off line contents and hit enter
5. Once focus return to the delete file buttons, tab to the clear history
button and hit enter
6. Tab to yes to delete and hit enter
7. Tab to okay and hit enter

Now, you will need to close down internet explorer and relaunch it.
