Dear Team,

I Heard that Section508 Checklist is Harmonised with WCAG2.0
guidelines. If the application needs Section508 compliance, I heard if
we perform testing based on WCAG2.0 A & AA guidelines even it covers
Section508 checklist.

Kindly confirm the same. If so can any one share the link where it
shows both are equal?

Thanks in advance,

Raghu

Raghu,

Section 508 is harmonized with WCAG per the law, but doesn't go into effect
until January. If you are a full time employee or contractor for an
agency. I recommend reaching out to the Agency 508 Coordinator, and asking
them their opinion, they are the agency officials who make that call.Quite
a number of Coordinators have said even though it isn't official, they
would accept WCAG documentation in lieu of 508, and point to WebAIM's or
WAI's checklists as acceptable bases.

If you are an outside vendor who does business with the government, I would
say doing WCAG based off one of the checklists above is fine. However, not
all agencies are accepting WCAG right now, so if you choose only to do
only WCAG 2.0, your company should have an official position as to why they
made the choice.
