NCRTM & Moodle Accessibility Collaboration
Project Overview
The National Clearinghouse of Rehabilitation Training Materials (NCRTM) is an organization that provides resources for the Vocational Rehabilitation professionals. WebAIM is involved in an ongoing collaboration with NCRTM to ensure that their web content is accessible.
There are two main areas of collaboration between NCRTM and WebAIM: improving the accessibility of their Content Management System (Moodle) and creating accessible, tagged PDF files.
Content Management System
The NCRTM currently uses Moodle as their Content Management System. Moodle is an Open Source Project, so WebAIM is contributing all suggestions and repairs to the NCRTM site back to the Moodle community. As these accessibility improvements are implemented by the community, they will be available to other groups using Moodle. Funding for participation in the Moodle community has been provided by the NCRTM
PDF Accessibility
The NCRTM hosts a clearinghouse of thousands of rehabilitation training materials. They are currently in the process of converting these paper-based resources to scanned PDF files. As part of this process, the NCRTM is tagging all these files so that they will be more accessible to people using assistive technologies. WebAIM is helping the NCRTM in this process by working to streamline this conversion and tagging process, providing training for their staff and providing support as the files are converted and tagged.
