Subject: [teitac-hardware] Brainstorm - Topics, content and potential
issues

Randy and I started a brainstorming exercise relative to the topics,
content, and issues that the "revised" hardware subcommittee will need
to consider. Please note, that we may note be able to get to them all.
The list starts below in no particular order. Please review and add
your thoughts.

1. The tactile requirement for when a device is all touch
screen
2. Biometrics requirement - may conflict with security
requirements
3. Handheld portable devices - does the mechanical force
requirements apply? What about connector requirements? Wireless
interconnectivity should be in lieu of mechanical connections.
4. Servers - Uhmm...
5. Cognition - color coding connectors, use of icons
instead of text, etc
6. BIOS - Uhmm...
7. How to encourage closed systems (like an iPod) to become
open to AT
8. Keyboard layouts on handheld device - should they be
required to be consistent?
9. The "Product Line" idea - if a product is too miniature
to be useable by people with disabilities, then there is another product
in the same family that isn't, but has the same function. In other
words, are we going to change the requirement that everything must be
accessible to permit a branch in a product line to provide accessible
and non-accessible versions?
10. Non-Computer-based E&IT (ie. LCD projector with a smart
card)
11. What are the "corporeal" interactions that need to be
covered? Touch, visual, auditory, cognitive
12. Existing standards - Hajime (Japan) mentioned several
JIS standards
13. Which requirements within 1194.26 should be maintained

We will be discussing this in today's conference call.
