I think the term we want to use is
Cognitive, language and learning disabilities
It turns out that what is a learning disability in one country is a
cognitive in another and vice versa. So separating these from each other is
a problem. But the range of cognitive language and learning disabilities
includes (but is not limited to):
- Impairments of Intelligence and Thinking
1 Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
2 Dementia (deterioration of cognitive functioning)
- Impairments of Memory
- Aphasia (an impairment in the ability to interpret
and/or formulate language symbols
as a result of brain damage)
- (Specific) Learning Disabilities
1. Spoken language: delays, disorders, and deviations
in listening and speaking (e.g., developmental aphasia)
2. Written language: difficulties with reading, writing,
and spelling (e.g., dyslexia)
3. Arithmetic: difficulty in performing arithmetic functions
or in comprehending basic concepts
4. Reasoning: difficulty in organizing and integrating thoughts
5. Attention: difficulty in maintaining attention
