Therese,

This website is a workspace for the Web and Software subcommittee of the
TEITAC and it reflects our discussion of issues with the current standard
and proposals for new requirements such as provisions addressing cognitive
disabilities. It represents different viewpoints of the subcommittee
participants and it therefore should not be used at this time as a
reference for Web designers.

The subcommittee will provide recommendations to the TEITAC which will in
turn make a recommendation to the Access Board about how the Section 508
standard should be updated. When the updated 508 standard is available, the
Access Board may choose to reference some of the appropriate resources from
this website.

Your information on the teitac website is most interesting and useful.
Hopefully, many web designers access this information. My input:
several articles and postings on this site indicate issues relevant to
cognitive disabilities and web accessibility are not of utmost importance.
I strongly disagree! As a survivor of a massive cerebral hemorrhage and,
yet, an 18-year successful I.T. Specialist for the federal government, I
know first-hand the importance of addressing such issues! In setting
policy related to this topic, I would suggest designers and policy-makers
to refer to:

Addressing such concerns assists not only those with cognitive impairments,
but also our aging population, and ... for all users!
