Subject: new provision
Hi All,
Please be aware that there is a new proposed provision, 6-F VoIP
Transmission, to cover wideband audio for VoIP:
"VoIP telephones and VoIP telephone-emulation software must be able to
transmit and receive speech that is digitally encoded in the manners
specified by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Standards G.711 and
G.722."
This provision will be discussed during one of the upcoming plenary calls.

Jim,
A quick point of clarification:
I think it makes sense to limit this proposed requirement to WIRED VoIP
telephones and telephone-emulation software. Many wireless environments
do not have enough network bandwidth to support G.711 and G.722.
Thanks,

Hi Paul,
Thanks. Can you provide me with re-drafted language? I don't want to get
the
TIA compromise wrong.
And I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "pushback from the wireless
people". If we say VoIP, doesn't that mean either wireline or wireless
VoIP, and not "regular" wireless like GSM? Isn't wireless VoIP bandwidth
dependent on conditions out of the control of the vendor, like how many
conversations are going on through each access point? If it's a dual mode
mobile phone, would including G.722 on the VoIP side be out of the question?
