Subject: Definition: Accessible Content Format

Dear All,

In discussing two of the provisions related to authoring tools, we
had noted that it might be helpful to have a definition of
"accessible content format." Following is a possible definition of
accessible content format, based on an initial draft from Ken. Ken,
please add comments or further tweaking as needed.

Two questions to consider in reviewing this:
- Is this definition clear?
- Does the definition contribute to the understanding of 7-A and 7-B?
(Links to the two provisions that these relate to are below.)

Draft proposed definition:

"Accessible Content Format: A data format that enables
the encoding of information in such a manner that it is
consistent with the relevant provisions of Section 508."

Provisions that this definition relates to:

7-A, Accessible Output:
<http://teitac.org/wiki/EWG:Draft_Jan_7#7-A_-_Accessible_Output_.28Consensed.29>
and
7-B, Preserve Accessibility Information:
<http://teitac.org/wiki/EWG:Draft_Jan_7#7-B_-_Preserve_Accessibility_Information_.28Consensed.29>

- Judy

Alan, do you have a suggestion on how to get to "completely" rather than just mostly clear?

Thanks,

Ken

I think this definition is pretty good, does help folks understand the
provisions, and is mostly clear.

original:
"Accessible Content Format: A data format that enables
the encoding of information in such a manner that it is
consistent with the relevant provisions of Section 508."

Minor change suggestion:
Accessible Content Format: A data format that enables
the encoding of information in such a manner that it is
capable for the information to be delivered, displayed, or rendered
to people with disabilities in a manor meeting applicable provisions of
this standard.

Ah, sorry Allen. I did't read down far enough. A tweak of your tweak follows:

Accessible Content Format: Data formats that enable the encoding of information in such a manner that it is capable of being delivered, displayed, or rendered to people with disabilities consistent with the relevant provisions of Section 508."

This is in effect a merger of your and Judy's edits.
