Subject: Copyright exemption decision
Hi All,
Concerning "closed" products, take a look at the following:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061123/ap_on_hi_te/digital_copyright
Most wireless phones distributed by wireless carriers are locked, only able
to be used on that carrier's network. The Copyright Office just granted an
exemption to the owners of cell phones, who are now allowed to unlock their
phones for use on other networks, such as when they travel abroad. This
eliminates the "closed by policy" practices of wireless carriers.
Although there is no specific reference to accessibility, it's easy to
imagine how this decision could be interpreted in our domain.
