Well - since this didn't go out last Wed we now can't have the meeting
Monday since it would violate our "give at least two days notice" provision.

So how about we

1) Get started by using the mail-list (email on this to follow)

2) Decide by mail-list if we want to meet later this week - or just
work on the mail list and

3) Check and see if people want to go with the 10 Eastern or the 1
Eastern time. (Hajime, if we went with the 10 Eastern time - that would
be 11pm Japan. Is that ok or too late for you).

Thanks

Gregg & Michael

Hi Everyone

We had planned to meet next Monday - but will need to delay the start of our
subcommittee meetings due to the Access Board's responsibility to assure
that all subcommittee meetings are public and accessible.

Tim Creagan wrote:

"I'd like to announce the first 'subcommittee meetings' on the Access Board
'508 Update' webpage, then tell everyone to check teitac.org for future
meeting dates."

Depending on how fast that happens we may or may not be meeting next Monday.
Lets ASSUME THAT WE ARE - and postpone if we aren't.

MEETING TIME - General subcommittee.

Conflicts with next Monday meeting calls

We had the following people who had conflicts meetings at this time.

11 EST Robert Nerhood, Andi SW, Ken Salaets

12 EST Peter Korn Whitney

1 EST (no one reported a conflict)

HOWEVER, for future meetings after next week

Hajime Yamada has joined our group and I think 1 EST is something like 2 AM
in Japan.

So what do people think about moving the call time to Monday at:

4 PM Europe

10 AM Eastern

7 AM California

11 PM Japan

This is early for West Coast. But I can't find any other time that works.

The only other choice might be late in day (say 6 or 7 PM eastern) but that
would eliminate any chance for participation from European members.

What are people's thoughts?

Lets start with anyone who COULD NOT meet at that time - starting the week
AFTER next ( i.e. Oct 23rd)

Gregg & Michael

I stay in Germany until next March. So 10 Eastern is 16 for me.

But I have some difficulty in using conference call. I attend by e-mails

Hajime...please consider using the FEDRCC. If everyone cooperates the captioner will be able to accurately transcribe everything that is being said. You will be able to comment or ask questions during this session since there is a window that allows for just this type of interaction. Once you have entered the informaiton into the window the captioner will read your comments to the group.

I like the 10:00 eastern. That's early here, but works better for me.

Thank you Hajime,

Ok everyone - the time on Monday that no one posted conflicts for then
was 1 PM EASTERN.

Unless there are objections and a new nomination that works better - how
about we go with that time each Monday.

Call details to follow.

Hajime, could you attend the voice call by Skype if we set that up? How

Thank you for your offer, Jim.

Yes, if I can use Skype, it saves my cost. I welcome your arrangement.

But serious reason is as follow (Do not laugh):

I can spend 24 hours using only English with a couple of people.
I can attend meetings in English only that continue 10 hours or longer
catching all the major discussions except jargons you sometimes use.
But for tele-conference, I can not survive longer than 30 or 60 min. Such
tele-conference causes headache especially when using traditional telephone
sets. I do not know the reason but one may be difficulty in identifying
voice. (For you at least identifying me is easy. The one who speaks Japanese
English is Yamada Hajime.)

Here in Germany, I can only use traditional telephone sets. That makes me
hesitate to participate in coming tele-conference. If Skype can be used,
because I can use headsets, It is worth to try.

Given Hajime's response, should we audioconference via High Speed
Conferencing instead? It's the only one I've found so far that allows both
Skype and POTS lines, allows hundreds of lines, and is free (although not
toll-free). I can't vouch for the accessibility of the web interface (not
needed for participation), nor does it have handraising.

I think that would be a grand idea. I suspect someone was using Skype today
for the Software call because we were really echoing and choppy to the point
that it was difficult to understand several participants. They obviously had
higher bandwidth requirements with so many people, but anything we can do to
improve the quality will also improve any captioning.

This sounds VERY interesting.

Do you have the URI?
Have you used it?

Jim Thatcher - can you look at the interface for accessibility when Jim
posts the URI?

I'll bet all the groups would like to know about this if it checks our
accessible.

We are using FEDRCC for our captioning

Are you saying they have a conference bridge we can use as well?
Does it accept Skype input as well as telephone (like the one Jim suggests)?

"I'll bet all the groups would like to know about this if it checks our
accessible."

I believe this was one of the options posted on the original recommendations
from the Access Board. It is coming up in the other committees that having
the toll calls is not acceptable since it restricts participation of
consumers who are not affiliated with an organization who would pay for the
call. There has definitely been consumer interest so I do think we need to
consider this as we select our teleconf tools.

It's in the wiki, but here it is:
http://www.highspeedconferencing.com/

Go for the "High Speed PLUS+", which gives you more features and is still
free. Their premium service (what is that called, "SuperPLUS"? "OctoPlus"?)
costs $5 per month gives you a bit more, including recording and handraising
(but not the order in which they were raised).

I've used PLUS+ quite a bit. For all-Skype calls the sound quality is
phenomenal. (Regular Skype can't bridge more than 5 legs.) For hybrid
calls it's as good as anything else I've used.

I have no commercial relationship with these folks.

Are you saying they have a conference bridge we can use as well?
Does it accept Skype input as well as telephone (like the one Jim
suggests)?

The use of FEDRCC is being utilized by the DHH as a means of
participating in the teleconferences. There is no reason that a hearing
individual cannot also use FEDRCC to participate.

Hi Brett

We are using FEDRCC for our captioning

Are you saying they have a conference bridge we can use as well?
Does it accept Skype input as well as telephone (like the one Jim
