EWG:Draft Oct 26 Accessible Content

1.2-B - Accessible Content

This page is the text proposed in the Nov Plenary Meeting.

Go to the Oct 26 Draft of this Provision

Text from Oct 26 Draft:
In complying with this subpart, each agency must operate software in a manner such that output from the software that is distributed or archived by the agency is made accessible to people with disabilities.

Notes from November plenary:

  • reword "accessible to people with disabilities" consistent with other provisions that require compliance with "applicable parts of 508"
  • move out of technical provisions to the section on agency requirements with 1.2-A. Create a subpart for "Information, Documentation, and Support". Create a new subpart after "Information, Documentation, and Support" to collect all of the agency requirements. Suggestion to call it "Implementation, Operation, and Maintenance".
  • the wording is too broad. "Output ... that is distributed or archived" is everything. Also encompasses system reports. Would be very expensive to make all of these reports accessible. One suggestion is to require agencies to develop policies around what content must be accessible.
