CHANGES THAT EW SHOULD MAKE TO JULY 6 DRAFT

Change 1.2 A Closed Products

If any product functionality is closed, then individuals with disabilities must have comparable access to that functionality without the use of any assistive technologies that must be attached or installed. A personal assistive listening device that connects to the standard audio connection required in provision [ 2.3.C-AUDIO CONNECTION ] is not considered assistive technology.

CHANGES THAT MUST COME FROM OTHER GROUPS

Proposal to the GENERAL Group for 1.1 H - With No Reach or Touch

Start this item with the words "Except for Closed products,..."

That will solve the contradiction from our standpoint. For closed products we don't know how to do this. For open products AT can and is often used to allow access.

There still is the problem that an "open" product could allow connection of AT but a person without reach who cannot touch the product could not connect the device. So this works for workstations but for public or shared devices there may need to be an exception too- even if open - unless connections are all wireless.
