Section 23F - May 30 Draft

May 30 Draft > Working Copy of Provision 2.3.F

  • Subcommittee: Hardware
  • Section: 2 - Provisions for Hardware Aspects of Products

Contents

Current Draft (for reference only)

When products provide auditory output, the audio signal shall be provided at a standard signal level through an industry standard connector that will allow for private listening.

Comments or suggested edits

We should consider qualifying the auditory output requirement. Does a system whose only auditory output consists of a "beep" need to have an audio jack? So long as the beep is not the only way of conveying the information (e.g. flashing the screen, programmatic exposure of the fact a beep has occurred), we should meet the accessibility needs of the user.
