TAGs from "Functional Components View"
Tags from Original "Functional Components View"
The Functional Components View characterizes the provisions rather than sorting them. this allows any provision to have many different characteristics rather than just one (if it was sorted). This is a very powerful technique. It also is unbounded. So we need to choose characteristics or tags well.
The ones in the FCV presently are:

Current Working list of Product Characteristic Tags
This is a list of tags that would be applied to Provisions (508, 255). These are NOT sort categories. Provisions could have one or many of these tags that would apply. These tags would be used by producers and others to identify provisions that would apply to product that have different characteristics. It can also be used to narrow a list of provisions to only those that apply to a particular product. If ANY tag applies to a product then any provisions associated with that tag would apply.
PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS
- Has Physical Controls (incl. latches, connectors, etc?
- could be broken down into input devices (which have their own software components, actually), other physical controls (on/off, etc.), and other mechanical components (battery cases, connectors). Would this be helpful?)
- Has Touchscreen or Softkeys or Touch Sensitive Buttons
- Uses Mouse/pointer Input
- Uses Keyboard (Physical - touch typeable)
- Has Printed text, labels, etc. on the product itself
- Has Visual Display with Text
- Has Visual Display with Graphics
- Uses Color (on keys, labels, displays, indicators, anywhere etc.)
- Has Sound Output (Other than speech)
- Has Speech Out (including conversation)
- Has Speaker that is held to ear or product projects large magnetic field
- Involves Speech Transmission over PSTN (analog phone)
- Involves Speech Transmission over IP (Digital)
- Has Speech In (Control or conversation))
- Has Biometric Identification Feature
- Has time Synchronized Media
- Has Time limits of any type (timeout, double-clicks, keyrepeat)
- Has User Documentation (Any type - electronic or print)
- Has Customer Support / Training
- Has OS that supports installed AT and user can install
- Has No OS that supports installed AT or OS/Hardware Locked
- Passes information/data through
- (passing through captioning info, for example.)
- Has electronic forms (Web & other Electronic
- Involves Web Content or Applications
- (is this too broad, and should be broken down into interface elements?)
- Product Allows User to set Preferences
- (this may be a subcategory. e.g. IF the product uses color AND allows user preferences....)
- All products (provisions with this tag ALWAYS apply)
- For example a provision aimed at making product easier to understand.
- Limited to Particular Type of product (Change these?) (what is this? functional breakdown? product categories as they are now?)
Questionable ones - do we need these?
- Product that user can't use their AT with (need to so something different about theses?)
- Involves Voice conversation (at a distance?) (is this covered general provisions for voice output) (could be "realtime voice conversation")
Questions raised in discussion of Take 2
- Is Ability to connect alt interfaces (that a user would have) part of the CHARACTERISTICS list or a requirement(provision). ????
- Where do packaging, setup etc come in?
- should we have a list of GENERAL GUIDANCE items
- What is covered:
- daily use ("Functions typically performed by end users"?)
- What is not covered:
- Closet exemption [need better term for 'back office']
- Maintenance
- Setup?
- Packaging? (part of setup?)
- Service? (when is something service? - adding paper to personal printer?)
- What is covered:
Disability Categories
- Blindness
- Low Vision
- ColorBlindness (all levels)
- Deafness
- Deafness + Speech ??
- Deaf-Blindness
- Hard of Hrng
- Physical - Mobility (is this category relevant for computer use?)
- Physical - Dexterity (or maybe use the term "motor control"; some users use their feet with a conventional mouse as an example yet many would not think of this as "dexterity" as this is typically thought of with respect to the hands)
- Speech
- Cognitive Language, Learning
- Seizure disorders
- Allergy - Sensitivity
- Every user (what does this mean?)
- Multiple disabilities (e.g., Deaf-Blind)
