Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever tested this component? And what your views would be from a screen reader perspective.

When I put it through its paces, I couldn't overcome the challenge of the images, despite me pressing all of them. When I hit the verify button, nothing happened.
I tested it with Jaws and chrome, and Firefox and NVDA.

The only way I could overcome the challenge, was to use the accessible cookie, that you get when you sign up for H captcha, with your email address. You get an email with a link which points to the accessible cookie that you can install. That bypasses the challenge.

I've been asked to make an evaluation of this, and I'm interested in other oppinions and outcomes people had with it before I do.

Any ecxperience, view or comments would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I'd rather have an inclusive design that was accessible than an accessible cookie hoop.

Cheers

Hi Barry.

I agree. Not only that, but we are asked to store a cookie on our browsers that users who don't need this are not. This poses privacy concerns.

I consider myself to have excellent hearing, but the audio challenges pose a huge challenge for me, and often block me.

What is the alternative solution? to using Google or H captcha?

Best wishes,

Brian Dalton.

I quite like the "Tick here if you are not a robot". Apparently, there are several options that don't require a captcha, including algarythms that can detect if the usage of a site is by a human or robot, although these can be problematic for some assistive tech.

One doesn't even need assistive tech to be running.

I trigger these captchas every time, due to always wiping cookies every time my browser closes, using keyboard for more than 50% of interaction, and I think also the gods have it in for me.

Google Recaptcha is the only one I approve for use. It works without a
challenge (except in very rare instances) and is relatively easy to
use.
This one sounds pretty awful, but I damit I have not tried it.

I fairly often get challenged by ReCAPTCHA - in particular on certain sites where I vote for games - but also on sites with authentication. This seems to happen on PC and mobile. The challenges typically involve answering 3 or 4 challenges per sessions as well. I'm not sure if it's something with my IP or the way I interact with it or the site's it's used on but it happens more than not and is not simply 1 challenge.

I've never got the Google Recaptcha working with a screen reader at all. Does it simply bypass the challenge?

There used to be a product called Captcha be gone, which would solve these, but I think it has gone now.
Best wishes,

Brian Dalton.

Whatever Zoom uses, hits me every time. I think it's ReCaptcha.

Makes me late for standups by about 5 minutes or so, every single time. I often get stuck in loops of endless asking to identify stuff without knowing what triggers it. I've refreshed the browser tab when getting stuck in the endless loops, but sometimes that doesn't help either and I miss the meeting.

I hate all captchas, may they all die in a fire, amen.
