Good morning,
I'm just curious who in this community has to test various websites/documents/web-based training for accessibility and provide your findings/results? If so, how you document your testing results?

DHS has a great list of resources ( https://www.dhs.gov/publication/dhs-section-508-compliance-test-processes) to include the "Test Spreadsheet" (referenced in screenshot) but it's dated August 2017 - does anyone have or use something similar to this spreadsheet? I'm strongly considering creating something similar but to better align with current WCAG; however, better might already exist and someone here might know how or where I can find it.

Thank you kindly,

Hi,

I recommend that you ask your COR to talk to the section 508 Program
Manager or their office. I work in such an office, and we have our own
checklists. We would only accept a DHS result from a certified trusted
tester, and ideally got our approval to not use the agency version at the
start of the project. Most of our Sows have the link to the checklist in
them.

Thank you, Ryan.
Do your checklists go through the list of WCAG guidelines and state if they're met or not?

The revised standards adopts wcag, and has additional requirements, like
the application functionality. Our checklist says applicable wcag or 508
standard each line maps to.

I've been looking into a free and open source tool called "HUGR" which
facilitates the report generation process based on WCAG 2.1 AA or AAA (and
a few others). The tool itself is supposed to be very accessible: HUGR
Accessibility Testing App <https://hugr.app/>

You can track pass/fails with notes on each WCAG 2.1 guideline (1.1 Text
Alternatives, 1.2 Time-based Media, etc.) in a web-based spreadsheet-like
interface, then generate a report based on the data that you entered. It's
pretty quick to set up, so it might be worth looking at even just to
generate ideas.

I am still assessing the tool so I can't vouch for it from start to finish,
but it is promising so far.

That might work for basic sites, but completing the 508 version of the vpat
is your best option if you can't talk to the 508 program manager. I meant
to add that to my last email too.

Hi,

We've got certified Trusted Testers as recommended by other blog responses to your inquiry. We've also got 2 coming up through that rather intense training process. If you'd like, I can put your question to one of them. We wouldn't charge for that as long as we had a few days to respond so that we could use this as a training exercise. We would have one of our veteran Trusted Testers look over the response before delivering it to you.

To proceed, email me the complete question with supporting references.

Cheers,
Peter Shikli
