I saw the recent links to cinnamon.nl, and their navigation element seemed perfect for a couple of things that I'm working on right now. but it occurred to me yesterday that I wasn't sure if a navigation element created this way would be "visible" to screen readers. on one of the projects, it's not that big a deal, but on the other, it's a *very* big deal. (as in, I'm thinking about using it for the college's main site.)

could somebody with JAWS and/or IBM Page Reader take a look and see how it reads this page:
http://www.pierce.ctc.edu/test/cr-webapps/justnav.html

(it should have a list with three links and one unlinked list item)

thanks!

Elaine,

I'm not sure what it is that I'm suppose to be seeing when I connect to the
site. Here is what Jaws 4.5 with IE 5.5 and Windows 2000 saw:
"Untitled
List of 4 items
. cr-webapps/workorders
work orders
. cr-webapps/printshop
print shop
. cr-webapps/businesscards
business cards
. publication review
list end"

I feel like that I'm missing something with the screen reader. What do you
think.

Hi Elaine

My point is not wholly to do with your question, but may be of use to you all the same. I just wanted to draw attention to the type of images that you used as buttons in the below mentioned page (may not be important if the images are not on the final site). However you might want to look at the clarity of the text and the contrast of the text on the background colour (in particular the white lines running through the buttons), to a low vision user - these buttons may cause a readability problem.

Regards Kevin

Note: if you do decide to do away with the white lines, you may think of using a combination of TEXT, <TD>'s and CSS to get your desired MouseOver effect instead of using images altogether (with there inherent problems, re-sizing etc).
