Get the terminology right old bean... that's 'GAdget' not 'WIdget'...
heaven forbid that MS should use a commonly used word for their shiny
new widgets... I mean gadgets :-)

I depends on your set up, at work (Win XP, FF & Outlook) I get a browser
pop-up saying "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because
the protocol (webcal) isn't associated with any program."
If I use 'http' instead of webcal, it tries but fails to open in
Outlook.

It works fine with Thunderbird/Sunbird, but I don't have those installed
anymore.

At home (OSX, FF/Safari and iCal), it would open the calendar in iCal.
I was hoping the same would happen with Vista, but I guess there is
another hurdle there.

Kind regards,

-Alastair

I got that when I tried at work (XP, FF & TB).

Oh... I have Thunderbird at work and at home. Do I need to have an
extension for it to work?

I'll try again tonight and this time I'll (try) to remember to write
down what happens and let you know. Does anyone else want to know what
happens? If not I'll contact Alastair off-list.
(I may just be doing something wrong: I only got my shiny new PC on
Monday (#Happy Birthday# to me...) so I'm still playing around with Vista.)

Thanks that would help. Probably best off list, although we can report
back if anyone's interested.

Happy Birthday :)

One thing to try would be copying the address, and seeing if there is an
'import' or 'subscribe' option in the calendar app. I'll have a look and
see if there is any MS documentation on it.

What you think Apple would like it if Microsoft "appropriated" the same name
for similar features?

Well, the term "widget" is fairly common, and already in widespread use
before Apple's dashboard thingy. I seem to recall that Konfabulator (now
Yahoo! Widgets) got there before Apple, and even before that the term
and functionality was already available in one of the
Stardock/Windowsblinds shell replacements for Windows and certain Linux
display managers...so yeh, widgets != Apple...but I digress :)

Hi, Tim,

There are lots of good resources on the Web to help you getting started with accessibility. I'm guessing since you're on the WebAIM list, you've seen the resources from WebAIM at http://www.webaim.org/

Here are some introductory resources from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI):
* Introduction to Web Accessibility
http://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/accessibility.php
* Essential Components of Web Accessibility
http://www.w3.org/WAI/intro/components.php
* Improving the Accessibility of Your Web Site
http://www.w3.org/WAI/impl/improving.html
* And many others available from the WAI Web site at:
http://www.w3.org/WAI/

In addition to the WebAIM list, you might be interested in the W3C WAI Interest Group (WAI IG) mailing list. You can join the WAI IG mailing list and post questions by following the instructions under:
http://www.w3.org/WAI/IG/Overview.html#Uselist
You can also search the WAI IG list archives through:
http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-ig/

Welcome to the Web accessibility community! <grin>
