Our college is trying to get all the distance learning pages accessibile
according to BOBBY and we have run up against a snag... We only use Front
Page as our authoring tool and many of the faculty use the themes feature.
The bullets that the themes feature puts on the pages are marked by BOBBY as
inaccessible but there is NO WAY to get to the coding to either alt tag them
or change them. We also have the same problem with faculty using little
pictures as bullets. It messes up all of the formatting when we try to
change these bullets.
The screen reader just ignores them but BOBBY doesn't... Can we legally put
the BOBBY logo on these pages if the screen reader doesn't have a problem
with them? Or does anyone have a work around on this?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Lanne,
We followed Maureen Hencemann's advice regarding bulleted lists. Please go
to my web accessibility website
www.regis.edu/disability/webaccessibility.htm (newly edited and in the
process of more revising) to see it exemplified and read about Bulleted
Lists in Front Page. The unformatted excerpt is as follows:
Component 2: Bulleted lists
Bullets in FrontPage are graphical images requiring ALT (alternate) text,
i.e. "bullet". However, bulleted lists pose an obstacle for visually
impaired individuals because they make it impossible for them to know the
number of bullets and where they are in the list. They are highly
discouraged because FrontPage sets them up as a table. Instead, it is
recommended to create lists in a numerical or alphabetical format with an
introduction that gives the number of steps in the list. See the following
as an example:

In the FrontPage Editor:
To create an accessible bulleted list do the following two steps:
Step 1: Introduce the number of steps before you begin the list.
Step 2: If you have embedded lists, name each one seperately. For example,
notice how the components in this section have been named as component one,
component two etc. and the list inside each component has been named Step 1,
Step 2 etc.

Why can't you get at the coding? In FrontPage, themes use shared borders,
and the files for the borders do exist in the frontpage web. If you are
using frontpage2000, look in the directory called "borders". If you are
using FrontPage98, go to the preferences (options? Web settings? Customize?
Whatever it is called) and make front page show hidden files. That will
help find the files containing the borders.
