OK folks, I've finally finished my wordpress theme with stylesheet switcher.
It's just a very basic black on white theme with an optional high-contrast
yellow on black theme. I did a lot of code cleanup and optimization, and I
believe it is the most accessible, semantic, and search engine friendly
theme offered.

For right now, I don't have any real posts, just placeholder text. But I
would be interested to hear if anyone has any suggestions before I release
it:

Got a question for testing accessibility and older browser. Does anyone use
Netscape 4.x and IE 5.x to browse the web?

The stats I found indicate that it is less than .5 percent for
Netscape 4 and and IE 5 or lower combined.. Beyond maybe ensuring that
the content is readable and core functionality available, I wouldn't
worry about browsers that old. For the WebAIM site, they account for
about .15 percent of traffic, but more than half of our visitors are
using Firefox, so our stats are probably atypical.

I concur. I don't know any developers who still support those browsers. You
can't even download either of them anymore. Same goes for IE on the Mac.

All of the big companies I've consulted for support the same browsers:

- Firefox 2 and 3 for Mac and PC
- IE 6 and 7 for PC
- Safari 2 and 3 for Mac and PC
- Chrome for PC

Like all developers, I go to bed at night praying that IE 6 will become
extinct and I won't have to spend half my time trying to make things look
right on that crappy browser. But as long as there are illegal copies of
Windows XP floating around, I'm afraid we're stuck with it.

Dean,

FYi, this is not working for me in Safari.

The page loads in high contrast mode (yellow on black) and the pop-up
reads "High Contrast". If I select "default" and hit the "Set" button,
the page reloads, still in high contrast mode.

Safari 3.2.1

Hi Keith. I'm using the exact same browser (unless you are on Windows?) and
it works fine for me. Only thing I can think is you may have a conflicting
cookie.

Keith,

I just tried it on Safari for Windows and it worked there too. I just
changed the cookie name (since my old demo had the same one). Try it again.

Yes, it is working fine now.

I had visited your earlier demo, so I guess that was the issue.

Anyway, all is now hunky dory. :^)

Also thought I would mention that in your normal theme, I have a
really, really hard time reading the dark grey on black footer text,
on both my Apple Cinema display and my generic PC flat screen monitor.

I know you want it subtle, but IMHO it is annoyingly hard to see.

My unsolicited 2¢.

Excellent. Thanks much for checking it out. I'm writing up an article on the
theme now, as well as a couple of other accessibility articles. I'll post a
link when I'm done.

Yeah, I figured as much (hence the reasoning behind multiple themes). But I
may bump it up a color to make it a little easier for everyone to read.

Thank to everyone who responded. The reason for this question was I found
an entry in the web statistic page that show a person was using a Window 3.1
o/s and IE 4.0 to access our website. That really blew my mind away and had
me wondering how many are really using this system.

Just to let you all know, there is a group email list that focus on old
window o/s. The audience of this group are mostly diehard blind people who
just don't believe in using newer o/s.

Hi Randy,

The problem with these older browsers is mostly just related to aesthetics.
They have terrible CSS support, so things tend to look pretty bad on them.
But if the people in question are completely blind, it shouldn't really
matter, and they should still be able to access all the content just fine.
