Does anyone see any issues with linking to content that is only available
via iTunes? The link in question (see below) will bring you to a page that
tells you that you need to download and install iTunes - or if you have
iTunes installed - will simply pull up that application.

As you know, Apple made some progress last year and made iTunes accessible.
Other than providing a link to where the "plug-in" is available, is there
anything else to consider?

BTW, this is a link to a new resource from NCAM on how to make "iTunes U"
content accessible. If you are interested in that, here is the link [iTunes
application required]

Well, here are my thoughts on this. I am an Apple user, and after a
lot of blood sweat and tears, I have learned iTunes. I wouldn't say
its the pillar of accessibility. Since I now know how iTunes works, I
clicked on the link, and it brought up iTunes. I wasn't quite sure how
this would work, but knew enough to look at the iTunes store html
content, and the material is there. I don't know how this will be for
non Voiceover users, as I don't know if Apple strived to make iTunes
accessible for all screen readers, or just Voiceover. Just a few days
ago, a Jaws user said itunes is not accessible.

So I think the answer to your question is that yes, linking directly
to iTunes material works, but for someone who doesn't have iTunes
installed, or who hasn't spent hours learning it, it might be a bit
daunting. If I were linking to iTunes content, I might give a little
instruction, like, once you have installed iTunes, interact with the
iTunes store html content to view the content in the link.

I would agree with Randi that there are still issues with iTunes.
"Made iTunes accessible" is not really representative of reality.
As a voice user, I still can't use iTunes without painful
mousegrid commands. On the other hand, it is better than it used
to be.

(And of course, you need to be making sure your iTunes-only
content is itself accessible, but I assume you've already done
that.)

I would say if there is an alternative to iTunes-only content,
You should probably use it.

I have actually used both -- one specific to iTunes for those who use it, and one for all others. However, that does not seem quite so elegant.

Hi John

I cant agree about the accessibility factor of IToons, but every time
I open IToons I get tol there is a new version and wehn I go to the
site I cannot for the life of me find the link to download, JAWS says
the word "link" at some point as if there is a link there but no
matter how I try to activate it nothing happens , so much for web
accessibility of the website.

cheers

Jeff,

to upgrade iTunes when it tells you there is a new version, its done
right from the iTunes application, not the website. I don't know if
that helps. If anyone needs help with iTunes, feel free to contact me
anytime.

Randy,

I could use some help please. Somehow once when I updated ITunes, it
prevents me from reading my list of songs to add unless I work qround it by
going to music then saying I want to add to library, then copy/paste into my
owner's IPod. In any case I can't browse the list like I once could. Any
suggestions?

Thanks,

-Diane

Diane, I'm not sure I'm following. What list are you trying to view?
Are you trying to put a specific playlist on the iPod? I'm wondering
with update caused this to happen too. Right now its telling me to
update, but I'm balking, because after the last update, a bunch of
weird stuff happened, and I noticed something similar. But I'm just
trying to narrow down exactly what you're trying to view/add to iPod.
Also, are you using Jaws?

Hi Randi

Sorry, wish it was that that easy. I go to "help" select check for
updates and a window tells me that a new version is available, 9.02 I
follow the link and cant find anywhere to download it.

If the link that I think is the one to activate the download then
I've come across these before, only with older versions of JAWS, they
will not activate either with the enter button or the space bbar. I
see this alot with WordPress plugins.

cheers

Randy,

Yes, using JAWS and yes trying to add individual songs to my IPod. No
matter which way I'm doing this, to delete something from the IPod, or just
read through my library to decide if I want to add something, I can't do
that. Sorry for not being great at explaining.

Thanks,

-Diane

Ok, I just plugged in my iPod. Do you remember the last time you did
an update? I'm looking at my system to see if I'm having that issue.

I don't know how it is in Jaws, for me, I go to my sources table and
interact with it, or open it, however it works with Jaws. Then I find
the device, and arrow to "music, device playlist" I stop interacting
with the sources table, and interact with the songs table, and there
are all my songs. I can also search for a specific song using the text
edit field to the left of the sources table, when music, device
playlist, is selected. I don't know how to copy an individual song to
the iPod other than copying and pasting, since there's no way to have
both songs table open. You can however, do an auto fill and do a whole
playlist. To do that, you could create a playlist in iTunes of say,
new songs or something. Then, when you select music, device playlist,
in the sources table, and arrow right, you'll see "auto fill from, and
then a pop up menu or combo box. There, you can select the playlist to
auto fill from, and it'll import all songs from that playlist to the
iPod. For some reason, it doesn't create the named playlist on the
iPod, which drives me nuts. It'll be under an unnamed playlist.

I don't know if I'm any good at explaining lol. This is how I've been
doing it, before the upgrade it wants me to do now, that I'm scared
of. Oh, and to delete, I again select music, device playlist, find the
song, and I don't know how you would do it in Jaws, but I pull up a
menu on that song, and one of the options is delete.

Does that help at all?
