James Madison University's Office of Disability Services (ODS) is
seeking a qualified individual who is creative and energetic to fill
the position of the Assistive Technology Assistant. This individual
will support ODS and the University in meeting its legal and ethical
obligations to provide equal access for students with disabilities by
assisting with the coordination of Alternative Media Program and
associated assistive technologies. This is a part-time position.

Duties include performing all functions related to production and
provision of books and other materials in alternative and accessible
formats to campus constituents with disabilities; evaluating,
identifying, and recommending effective technology solutions to meet
identified client needs and implement recommended technologies in the
targeted environment; collaborating with campus partners to increase
capacity to provide accessible learning materials; improving
procedures and systems for ensuring effective and timely provision of
services; supervising student staff and informing appropriate staff
of needs associated with supplies for the alternative media program.

Qualified candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of network
operating systems, Microsoft Office software, particularly MS Access,
content management and online survey software; experience installing,
configuring, maintaining, and trouble shooting a variety of software
and hardware, including Windows, Mac OSX, Microsoft Office, Dell and
Apple products; the ability to manage and prioritize multiple
projects concurrently; knowledge of and experience with various
technologies utilized to provide access across a variety of platforms
including but not limited to text to speech engines, speech to text
engines, scanning and OCR conversion, captioning for video, and
screen readers and magnifiers; ability to work independently and
collaboratively; knowledge of and skills related to implementing
Universal Design principles; an understanding of the ADA and federal
regulations and recommendation related to providing accessible materials.
