I apologize if this topic has been recently discussed but...
I am having trouble with making data tables accessible. A colleague asked me to run her website through JAWS after she added header ID's to her table. When we use JAWS 3.7 it does not seem to associate the header ID with the cell. I wanted to know if the HEADER ID is only recognized with certain screen readers? Is it consistent? Or, it could be just that we coded the table wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Marci,
I am a novice user of JAWS 3.7, but I tried out the first couple of tables, and JAWS did seem to recognize the table headers when using ctrl+alt+left and right arrows to navigate the tables. I got a little confused at first because there is just the row of headers and then one row of data cells, with each data cell containing a list of courses. Each list item could be separately associated with the header if it
were put into its own data cell.
Hope that's helpful,
Carol

Marci -
Your code seems fine. I thought my tables were not working either. JAWS will not read headers if you allow it to read straight through the table. You must stop JAWS and navigate through the table cell by cell. It should read your headers then.
Hope this helps

Plus, as Carol mentioned, you should use "CTRL+ALT+the arrow keys" to navigate the table.
