Subject: Email List for Blind and Visually Impaired Testers

All,
As a blind tester I am always looking for strategies to improve what I do, and clearly identify where I need to bring in a sighted tester for a visual check. The current discussion regarding testing contrast is a good example. Often I find myself wishing I had a place to discuss these matters with other blind or visually impaired testers, and a site where we could aggregate community knowledge.
I am considering registering a domain and launching an email list for this purpose. I do not have a feel for how many others would have an interest in such an undertaking. If you would find this of value, please drop me a note off-list. If I get a sufficient response, I will move forward.

I for one would not mind if it stayed on WebAIM. Tips are tips, even tips
for testers who are visually impaired. We all benefit from others tools,
ideas, and experiences related to accessibility.

I would be interested in such a list. Also, if you need a server to host a site/list I could provide that, free of charge, a cPanel installation.

I think this is a fantastic idea. While some of the Oracle testing I do is probably confidential, there would still be a lot to gain and share.

I'd also welcome discussion on this list. There may be times when our
sighted peers can suggest solutions or strategies, and we might well miss
out on that if we had a separate list.

I have followed this thread thoughtfully, as well as the email I have received off-list. Like all of you, I highly value the discussions of techniques, strategies and the hashing out and clarifying of technical concerns that takes place here. I do not anticipate that the formation of my list will in any way take away from the valuable interaction of the WebAIM list. Its goal is not to draw members away from full participation in this list. Rather, its purpose is to provide the possibility for the small number of us who are blind/vi professionals working in the field to interact more closely with one another.
I have begun moving forward thoughtfully, so as to think through how to define this project in a manner that complements existing resources. If there is an unmet need, a group will develop. My thanks to those who have offered input and assistance, you will be hearing more from me off-list.
