Subject: iPhone versions for testing mobile accessibility

Does it matter which version of iPhone I use to test for accessibility? I'm
finally getting one from work for testing and they have offered me a iPhone
6 or iPhone 8. Which one should I request?

Accessibility is similar, but iPhone 8 is newer of course and can probably be used for a longer period of time. And when having a choice, at least I would have thought this, it is most tempting to take the newest phone.

And 3d touch is not available on iPhone 6, not very important perhaps, and several sites say that 3d touch probably will disappear, but it is there now, and if you want to test everything:-)!

Thanks for the quick reply Morten. I agree that the newer phone is more
tempting, but I just wondered if we should treat this like other tools --
realizing that not everyone has the latest versions of hardware/software
therefore testing on older versions of things. If the accessibility is
pretty much the same on both, I will probably request the newer phone.

Most iPhone users update iOS, and therefore I do think this is more important when testing with pc (old os, browser, screen reader etc).

I have performed very little application testing on the Iphone, but I have noticed, that some things work differently on the newer larger screens.

One app I tested, I found that the menus did not stay open when double tapped if voice over was running. If that is an option, try to get both.

This could matter if you are testing applications with breakpoints.
You need to be able to test the application contents at all
breakpoints (or at least the two most important ones). Your device's
screen size can play into this.
The most important thing is the version of iOS you are testing with.
I'd test with current, or current - 1 version of iOS. Upgrading is
free and users get periodic reminders to upgrade.

I have noticed one or two minor quirks in how different hardware
devices treat apps, even when they are running the same version of
iOS, but I can't name an eact problem right off the top of my head, so
I don't think it is super important.

I'd go with the iPhone 8 personally. *grin*

As previously mentioned, I think the iOS is more important than the actual
phone.

Regarding 3D touch, the vanilla iphone 6 does not have it but the 6s does.
