Usefulness of "Opens in New window" Indicator for non-blindness

Is there any information to support whether an indication of link, "opens in
new window" indicator is useful to people with disabilities who are not
blind? Discussing the usefulness of this indicator with a group who is
wondering if it matters to any users who are not blind.
