I have never had a problem with simple tables in JAWS, but I have had
problems with spanned rows or columns, as documented at
http://www.webaim.org/howto/tables/tables3 (toward the bottom, under the
heading "Avoid spanned rows or columns")

Subject: Jaws 4.05 bug???
I installed the new Jaws 4.05 and just found what I think is a bug. If
you ask it to read a cell from a table it ignores the first column
heading. Has anyone else seen this?
example:
| A | B |
-------------
| 1.0 | 2.0 |
--------------
Jaws will read row2 column1 as 1.0 and column2 as B, 2.0.
