Kathleen Bastedo

Instructional Designer, Center for Distributed Learning
University of Central Florida



Kathleen Bastedo received a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Utica College in 1982 and has worked in occupational therapy for over 20 years including 10 years specializing in the area of assistive technology. She earned a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Florida in 1997 and has been working as an instructional designer at the University of Central Florida (UCF) since 2006. She facilitates faculty with the design, and delivery of online courses and has created and taught online for the UCF College of Education in the area of assistive technology. Her area of specialization includes Universal Design for Learning and the accessibility of online course materials, and adaptive learning software. Kathleen has presented on these topics at a variety of conferences including Sloan-C (including both the Online Learning Conference and the Blended Learning Conference and Workshop), the Educause Learning Initiative, and the Assistive Technology Indu
stry Association annual conference.







Karla Kmetz, M.Ed.
Instructional Designer, Online Learning and Instructional Technology Services

University of South Florida
Karla Kmetz is the Lead Instructional Designer and an Adjunct Faculty Member in the College of Education at the University of South Florida St Petersburg. She is currently earning her PhD in Instructional Technology at USF. With 7 years of experience in Education and Accessible Technologies, her professional interests include Universal Design for Higher Education and the Accessibility of Online Courses. Karla has lead or co-presented sessions at local and national conferences within this discipline, both virtual and face-to-face.

Prior to her time at USF St. Petersburg, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Disability Studies from The Ohio State University in 2008. An undergraduate research program encouraged her to pursue her interest in the accessibility of web and electronic materials and multimedia to students with disabilities. She went on to earn a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Assistive and Special Education Technology from George Mason University in 2010.

Throughout her professional career she has held positions focused on technology and supporting individuals with disabilities at The Ohio State University Nisonger Center, AmeriCorps, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities), and Fairfax County Public Schools.

Maureen Madden
Instructional Designer
NOVA
Maureen Madden has had a variety of career paths including computer programming, swimming instructor and preschool teacher. She has been with Northern Virginia Community College for over 18 years. The first ten years were spent assisting both faculty and students in the Alexandria Testing Center with the following years at the Extended Learning Institute as an instructional designer for online courses. Maureen is a George Mason University Patriot having completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees on the Fairfax campus. Maureen has a passion for providing accessible online learning materials and actively promotes equity and inclusion for all.
