Subject: Available tools to test for accessibility of secure pages
No previous message | Next message →
Hi,
I am curious to know if anyone is aware of an accessibility tool that
tests web pages in secure environments like a learning management
system. Almost all of the free 'developer toolbars' I am aware of,
point to the w3c accessibility validator which is not suitable.

Matt we have built the Firefox Accessibility Extension and the Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE) to address this exact problem:
Download the Firefox Accessibility Extension:
http://firefox.cita.uiuc.edu
Navigate to the page you want to evaluate and then issue the following command:
Use the "Accessibility" -> "Tools" -> "FAE Report" feature to generate an FAE report on the dynamically generated content for the page. The report shows up in a new tab in Firefox.
Functional Accessibility Evaluator:
http://fae.cita.uiuc.edu
Let me know what you think of the tool,
Jon

There is no "w3c accessibility validator". I'm assuming you mean the
markup/css validators, and that you're not after a bulk tester, but just
something on the toolbar to test on a per page basis? In that case, web
developer toolbar in FF will do fine...instead of "validate
HTML"/"validate CSS" do "validate local HTML"/"validate local CSS"
instead (which takes the current page's source and POSTs it, rather than
pointing the validators to the current URI)

W3C does not provide a Web accessibility checker (be it a validator or
an evaluation tool), but maintains a list of such tools that have
different functionality. This list may help you find the right tool for
your specific situation and requirements:

Hi Matt:
HiSoftware has several tools that can do this for you
AccVerify 10
AccVerify for Microsoft Expression
AccVerify for Microsoft Sharepoint Designer
AccMonitor
These tools have some pretty easy to use and comprehensive transactional
processing capabilities. If you are familiar with QA then these tools
would be similar to QuickTest/WinRunner, etc. They allow the recording
and playback of transactions with the ability to "Crawl" after
completing any number of transactions.
