I have been thinking about incorporating the Google Maps API to show the location of the 34 technical and community colleges in our state (Washington). Does anyone know how accessible these maps (and details views) are to those who use assistive technologly?

Hi There,

I use Voiceover with Leopard OS 10. I had never tried the maps before,
so I just went there. It somehow new that I use a screenreader,
because it said something like, screenreader users click here for
plain html. So I did, and entered University of Arizona. It allowed me
to enter my start address, and get directions in plain text. So,
sounds like it works from my end.

Hi!

Martin Kliehm has provided som instructions on how to increase
keyboard accessibility for Google maps here:

http://learningtheworld.eu/2009/keyboard-accessible-google-maps/

This may be a good starting point for developers adding google maps to
a website.

Regards,

Peter Krantz

This screen reader line is present whether you are running a screen reader
or not.

<A class=offscreen href="http://maps.google.com/?output=html">Screen reader
users: click here for plain HTML</A>
