Hello everyone,
I have been testing several PowerPoint files and have now encountered two that give a warning regarding the reading order on a couple slides - I manually verify the reading order and confirm accuracy, but the Inspection Results do not update. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thank you!
Claire

Hi Claire,

Do you have any decorative objects that are not removed from the reading order? If so, uncheck them in the Reading Order pane.

Do you have any overlapping objects? This can trigger a reading order warning so check carefully - even the tiniest overlap can cause an issue. You may not be able to do anything about that depending on the nature of your content and if you use layering, but first check if you have avoidable overlapping caused by (for example) oversized text boxes. If you have objects that need to overlap for layout reasons, try grouping them together and seeing if that helps. If you have overlapping for animation, there's probably no way round that and you may need to live with it (but the animation may cause problems in other ways).

It's also possible it's just a result of the less-than-perfect PowerPoint algorithm. If you've manually checked the reading order and are happy that it’s logical you can probably just ignore the warning. If possible, double check those problem slides with a screen reader.

Kind regards,

Nick
