Sometimes when I am not exactly certain what to write or add
I will write up a document with all of my qualifications and experience.
Then I will actually go to ChatGPT and ask it to help write a profile. This might help you get that information out and put it on LinkedIn.
Because LinkedIn is probably one of your better resources

Also, if you have a résumé it would benefit you greatly post that as well.
Hope this advice helps Dean Vasile

thanks, that certainly helps

Do you have any experience dealing with the DHS trusted tester programs?
They have recently updated their course platform and I lost all my saved
progress. Reaching out to them yield no response.
Not sure how responsive their help desk is as I've been slowly
completing the course for past year without any problems.

I have heard from peers that the exams may have many technical errors and
difficulties.

Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with that.
Typically when I take any courses, I immediately download their certificates to my computer and save them.
So I am absolutely not sure how to advise you on that path.
But I do wish you the best of luck

Hello again Kavein,
As I understand it, with the DHS tests, if you don't pass the course in a
month or go a month without accessing it, I don't remember, you have to
start it again, you lose all your progress (I've lost it myself). Dean's
advice is infallible: keep each diploma that certifies you at each stage.
Otherwise, if you organise yourself, you can do the course in that month
without any problem.
If you need help with anything else, we're here for you.
Best regards

Kavein,

I completed the Trusted Tester training/certification a couple of years ago. This was before they made changes to their LMS but I did hear from others who were midway through the process of the changes, being fearful that their work progress would be lost. I've had success sending emails to = EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED = and wonder if that is where you sent your questions?

Big picture on Trusted Tester is that you complete each section then move on to the practice exam, score high enough then qualify to do the certification exam. With the final exam I allowed a whole day without distraction and if memory serves me, failed some questions wherein they send you feedback on which ones you got wrong. And then those are the remaining ones you have to pass to get the certification.

I'm a sighted user so the whole certification process would be much easier for me than for you as a screen reader user from what I've come to know of that extra layer to work through.

As for the job world, there are companies that are thoughtful about their accessibility work and rely not only on internal developers with accessibility experience but go the extra mile to have people with disabilities who use assistive technology give them feedback not only on accessibility but also usability. I imagine that if you look around at companies that make software used in higher education or government work where accessibility is required, then those companies would benefit from making their offerings more accessible. Check the web sites of some of those companies that make Learning Management Systems, course content, and other such tools and look for their VPATs. Do they employ outside firms to create the VPAT completed as an ACR? Do they also mention additional testing by people with various disabilities who rely upon assistive technology like screen reading software? In time, looking at ACRs you'll find a few are exceptional for their honesty and detail while many are merely a checkbox checked to make sales.

Perhaps you'd volunteer with some places for a short while to get some concrete skills like helping some agencies doing testing for procurement. Does Malaysia have national laws mandating accessibility in education and government web sites? If so, do those shopping for information and communication technology do testing to be compliant?

CAUTION: This email came from a non-OC system or external source. Beware of phishing and social engineering!

Hi friends,

I am a native Blind person from malaysia. Been using screen readers and informally testing for web accessibility for about 12 years now.

I have completed the deque accessibility specialist course and in the progress of completing the DHS trusted tester course.

I am in the fourth course, but the platform reset happens and I have to retake everything together.

I would love to know more about the processes that's needed for me as a person from a global south country to enter into paid web accessibility testing job.

1. Is the dhs trusted tester course is a must to complete? Is there any ways for me to recover my completed courses? I have emailed them but there is no reply from them yet.
2. What other courses do I need to do to get a good chance of being hired?
3. Are there places that I need to check periodically for job offerings?
4. what are the usual salary/payment look like in this industry for a person that works remotely from a global south country?

As I am new to this field on looking for jobs, Any other advices or pointers from experience is much appreciated

Kavein
The Program released a new version recently. It was offline from late
December until the last week or so. You should have gotten a few
notifications in November and December about it. You had to finished the
courses and take the exam by the date in December, otherwise all progress
would be lost because of the update.

Hope this helps
