Hello Everyone .

It gives me great pleasure and excitement to tell everybody that , I
have come up with a website dedicated to accessibility.
link:
www.projectrics.org

I have developed it using Codeigniter MVC framework version 2.1.3 and PHP.

Since the start of this project , It has been more of learning and
experimentation.
As my belief about accessibility has always been that

"PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST WAY TO LEARN AND IMPLEMENT ACCESSIBILITY "

Coming to this site , I have many long term and short term goals ,

One of them is "SIMPLIFYING IMPLEMENTATION OF DIFFERENT ACCESSIBILITY
GUIDELINES" like WCAG 2.0 , SECTION 508 etc.

This can only happen , when this site comes of it's age.

I require full support of "My accessibility family" , as from time to
time your suggestions and feedback will give a lot of encouragement .

So your feedback from time to time is very valuable to me , as I am
sure that many of you may have gone through the same phase.

Please do let me know what you think.

I REQUEST YOU TO CURRENTLY LOOK AT IT FROM ACCESSIBILITY PERSPECTIVE
MORE RATHER THAN PRESENTATION .

AS MY FOCUS IS MORE TOWARDS QUALITY CONTENT

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT CURRENTLY THIS IS NOT A FULL TIME PROJECT FOR ME
AS I AM ALREADY DEDICATING MY TIME IN AN ORGANIZATION PROPAGATING
POINT OF ACCESSIBILITY.

Dear Ravindra,

a few initial gut reactions (there is no intent to insult but I believe honest feedback will have the greatest value for you):

- do not use all uppercase (whether in email communication or on web sites), it's difficult to read
- the visual appearance of your website makes it relatively difficult to access for users without visual disabilities
- widened character spacing (as used in your headings) makes it difficult for most people to read the text
- the structure of the start page seems illogical to me: a side aspect "Tag cloud" seems to be the main heading for the main content ("Introduction" etc.)
- there is no recognizable heading/structure nesting for headings "Assistive technologies used for web browsing" and the items below it like "Screen reader software" etc.
- there should always be a space character before an opening parenthesis
- a sentence like "More on accessibility legislations @ WAI and Web Aim Accessibility Guide Lines" is too much on the jargon side to be easily understood by those who don't know this stuff already

Again - this is just intended as some feedback, for which you did ask...

Like Olaf said … some helpful critique:

· Is there no styling? Looks like a multi column site, but its missing the CSS.

· There are script tags before the first html tag when viewing source, but they appear ok when viewing generated source?

· Font size is working only on the font size selectors

· High contrast links are dark blue against black, making them very hard to see/read.

· Tag Cloud Links? Don't look like links, until there selected and show as visited.

· Contact Us … email has no mailto link

Checked on Win7/FF21

Hello.

I see a possible problem within your copy:

The paragraph under the subhead "Cross platform compatible" seems to contain other sections that are meant to be subheads of their own with their own following text.

Specifically, "Usability: Usability and accessibility..." and (I believe) "Accessible content will be...". OR perhaps there is only some missing punctuation before that last one (?).

Otherwise, you seem to do a fairly good job of introducing the principles of web accessibility to an audience that is web-savy, but not knowledgable about accessibility.

Also, you asked for a focus on the content, not the presentation, but I do have to mention that, at least for someone viewing the site on a traditional desktop browser, the extremely long lines of text make the larger paragraphs somewhat difficult to read.

Hello,

The color scheme for focus via the keyboard (red on bright yellow) is a
killer, at least to me.

Legislation section.
- the first time you mention 508, you should use the full name: Section 508
Amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 - to eliminate any possible
confusion
- The following line may lead to confusion " If your website does not meet
the Accessibility Guidelines, then the website owner could be sued for
discrimination." Technically speaking the elements within WCAG 1.0/2.0, are
guidelines, which are nice-to-haves, versus, when they are in a law, they
are "you must do this."
- So the country guideline part at the end is incorrect.

Some comments about the basic mark-up, which is the start for accessibility ...

* The doctype declaration <!DOCTYPE html> = HTML5, but the page is not written in HTML5 markup.

* The file does not validate to W3C standards.

* What? No title tag for this 'page,' which offers a meaningful title?

* You have not set a "charset" parameter to identify character encoding (e.g., utf-8).

* Information contained within the sections Main Navigation and Tag Cloud are not really tabular data, but are laid out using the table element -- best practices would suggest using CSS instead.

* Document structure seems just a bit flawed to me as it regards the heading levels. Why are sections Main Navigation and Tag Cloud marked-up as heading level 2s when, what seems to me, more important information that follows are sectioned within heading level 3s? In fact, using CSS positioning (perhaps to float right) for the Main Navigation and Tag Cloud sections, I might make them h3s and the headings starting with Introduction as h2s.

* Some inconsistencies in markup; e.g., the following paragraph is closed (probably just an oversight): "Individuals living with a disability use assistive technologies such as the following to enable and assist web browsing:"

Hi Olaf , Greg , Keith , Ryan , Williams and Webaim family ,

Greetings and Lot of Thanks for your valuable and encouraging feedback .
Well, this was the whole point of me starting this site in the first place.
Please , Keep them coming , :) .

As Olaf mentioned that "Honest feedback is of greatest value to me" :)

Right now , this site is more of an Individual effort & will be
incorporating lot of changes in a due coarse of time. So there will
be many versions and Sub Versions for changes in this site ( Both
Design and Content ) till it attains it's goals , and "contribute to
Accessibility in it's own way".

I have already noted the feedback mentioned by you in your mails &
will be taking each one of them one by one , and try to resolve it
over a period of time.

Also , I do plan to do implement some of these features in this site
in the long run.

* Presentation on accessibility
* Login and Registration / Administration
* Blog / Forum
* Bug tracker
* Accessibility Links / Codes / Practical ARIA Examples ...........
* Strong points for presenting "Accessibility as a business case "
to companies .
* Google analytics and Accessibility
and much more .........

So do let me know , how you can contribute to this site via. Code /
Links / References ........etc or what you would like to see in this
site.

You can also drop in a mail to me directly.
For that please do mention "projectrics " in the subject.

Thanks & Regards,

Ravin:

While I admire your enthusiasm, I would hold off a bit on these as they
require a bit more knowledge of HTML, and other things.

* Presentation on accessibility - W3C has a number of pre-existing
presentations you may want to link to: http://www.w3.org/WAI/train.html

* Login and Registration / Administration - this requires the knowledge of
other technology such as PHP or ASP.net

* Blog / Forum same as above, and some database knowledge. WordPress and
Drupal are popular blog/cms platforms. Some hosting providers have an
one-click install ability. While this relieves you of having to mess with
the back end, it limits you on certain aspects, such as customizing themes
and uploading your own. My first 'blog' years ago was nothing more than a
HTML file with entries. At first I would just delete older "posts"/entries,
then manually moved them to another file. Finally I moved to a blogging
platform.

* Bug tracker - these are often use for big scale or multi-threaded
projects, in my experience. What would you use it for?

* Accessibility Links / Codes / Practical ARIA Examples

* Strong points for presenting "Accessibility as a business case "
to companies . - there's been a few blog posts about this, ex:
http://www.karlgroves.com/category/accessibility-business-case/

* Google analytics and Accessibility - can you explain this one?
