I'd have to agree wholeheartedly with the gist of most of the replies
to your post - there is no valid reason that I can think of that
DOCTYPEs aren't being generated and inserted. It's not a problem with
any number of server side approaches (jsp, asp, cold fusion, php, etc.)
It may very well be that the individual(s?) you spoke with weren't aware
of how to add the doctype declaration to the generating template... but
that seems more of a problem on the vendor side... it should be readily
available and modifiable by the end user.
