Subject: A Cognitive Accessibility Project



The first annual meeting of the RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive
Technologies (CT) will take place June 8, 2011. Whether or not you can
attend this meeting, it is still possible to join this new accessibility
standards committee and help make technology easier to use.



What is this project?

There has been impressive accessibility work to make computers, the web,
cell phones and other technology usable by people with motor and sensory
impairments. Now it is time to address the needs of people with
cognitive impairments.

This project by the RERC-ACT of the University of Colorado School of
Medicine aims to make everyday technology products more usable by people
with cognitive impairment resulting from conditions such as Alzheimer's,
attention disorder, brain injury, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome,
learning disability, Parkinson's disease and stroke. Of course, many
people will benefit from better design and more options for

What can you do?

* Join the RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Technologies.

share your thoughts about the technologies that are most important for
people with cognitive impairment.

RESNA 2011

The first meeting of the RESNA Standards Committee for Cognitive
Technologies will be held in conjunction with RESNA 2011, Toronto, June
8, 2011, 5:30pm-7:30pm. There will be two additional meeting related to
the this committee at RESNA 2011:

* An informational meeting for our CT committee will
take place Tuesday, 07 June 2011, 12:00pm - 1:30pm. The primary goal of
this gathering is to recruit new members.

A presentation on the RERC-ACT D1 Development of Uniform Standards for
Cognitive Technologies project will be given during the RESNA Platform
11 Policy & Standards Session on Wednesday, 08 June 2011, 3:30-5:00.
