> Within the Office of Public Affairs, University Communications encompasses the Stanford News Service and serves as the official voice of Stanford University to regional, state, national and international news media, provides support and provides campus leadership in planning, coordination, and implementing communication programs that support Stanford University and its missions. > The Web Accessibility Specialist provides oversight, technical leadership and coordination of the Stanford Online Accessibility Program (SOAP). He or she supports university departments and programs with the assessment and development of accessible web and information technology resources. The position reports to the Director of Web Communications in the Office of University Communications.
> Responsibilities

> Consulting
>
> • Perform regular accessibility audits of Stanford websites and web applications.
> • Perform accessibility evaluations for websites and applications under consideration for purchase and deployment at Stanford.
> • Work with vendors to implement accessibility features for web applications and software in use at Stanford.
> • Evaluate accessibility of external platforms that host Stanford content, such as YouTube and Coursera.
> • Troubleshoot, evaluate and recommend assistive software and hardware.
> • Establish guidelines, best practices and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites, IT software systems and online materials.
> • Work in collaboration with the Office of Accessible Education, the Diversity and Access Office, IT Services and the Online Learning Initiative.

> Outreach and Training
>
> • Develop and implement outreach and training for web designers, developers and content providers. This person will also be a resource for faculty who are using the web to deliver instructional materials.
> • Train University IT staff to use accessibility monitoring software and assist in identifying strategies and solutions for IT accessibility.
> • Develop webinars/online training materials.
> • Develop and implement training on accessibility standards to a wide variety of audiences.

> Design and Production

> • Work with colleagues in Web Services to develop accessible templates and tools for web production.
> • Oversee captioning service for video published on Stanford websites, Stanford's YouTube channel and other delivery platforms for online video.

> • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Information or Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

> • Extensive knowledge and experience with web technologies (HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Xml, and Web content management systems).
> • Extensive knowledge and experience with assistive technologies (JAWS, VoiceOver, Dragon NaturallySpeaking).
> • Extensive knowledge and experience with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and guidelines.
> • Experience with accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
> • Strong organizational and project management skills.
> • Effective written and oral communication skills.
