Jared - the part I don't like about my idea is that the link back up to the main content comes BEFORE it is read by the screen reader, not at the end of the footnote. But the convention for footnotes is to put that number before the note. I suppose I could put another link at the end of the note - perhaps hide it off screen from sited users.
