Hi Jonathan,

I'm afraid that would cause more confusion than a straight carousel. The
first item in it is a 'pause' button, I was just trying to get that to
pause automatically so it becomes a 'play' button for keyboard users.

Switching to application mode would mean that non-screen reader users would
think it doesn't work (there's no visible indication you need to use the
arrow keys), and screen reader users unfamiliar with ARIA (or not expecting
it) would also be confused.
