As an aside, I like your thinking here. As we can't "a priori" detect if
a device is a touchscreen device AND (in the case of multi-input
devices) if the user is in fact going to use a touchscreen even when
present, we can (for the most part) try to determine which kind of
combobox adaptation right at the point where the user interacts with it.
