Dear All

If you are wanting to add to a Westernised set of symbols with some that have been developed specifically for those living in the Arabic Gulf Region to be more socially, culturally and religiously sensitive, please just register on the Tawasol symbols website http://tawasolsymbols.org/en/home/ . You can download a freely available complete symbol set or just take individual symbols in English or Arabic.

I if you have any problems please just get in touch. We have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/tawasolsymbols/ and a blog about the research.

Best wishes

Lisa,

I know that Braille is different in different languages. For example, I know the Braille that we use in the USA, since I grew up here. Yet, Braille used in the Middle East for Arabic is different. Since I am Lebanese, I couldn't make any heads or tails out of Arabic Braille.

I used Braille as an example. I would presume that Middle Eastern and Far eastern countries may have different symbols. You may want to check on those. I would not be surprised if they do copy the western world, since Europe, USA and Canada have a large influence on those countries.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly, but hopefully, it adds more to your knowledge. If you find out of any foreign ones, do share them please.

Subject: [WebAIM] Symbols

Hi All,

Someone just sent me something on accessibility symbols for people to use.
I have seen a few in my travels over the years. However, other than the Graphic Artist Guild symbols, are there others you have used or like?

I am curious to know if people in different countries use different ones.

Cheers

Lisa
