Often with portal-style designs, you'll end up gathering content from
several "owners". When this happens it is easy to get mismatching styles and
widely-varying level of accessibility. I like the idea of defining
enterprise-wide styles and templates wherever possible, so that content
derived from its various homes in the enterprise achieves a level of
consistency. Reaching this goal can also be made easier in some cases by
using a web service architecture, as you can fetch just the content and then
apply your own consistent styles via XSL.
