hello list,

I hope there is a zoomtext user out there who can check something for me.

There is a bit of css that someone I am working with would like to use -
it adds a background gradient and a drop shadow to a div - and I think
it messes up the zoomtext display when you reverse colours.

I have set up two boxes, one with the gradient background style and one
with just the drop shadow. They look the same to me, but I hope that the
second one will reverse background colours in zoomtext.

If you have that software and can take the time to look, it would be
much appreciated.

Here's the link. css is in the head of this page.

thanks very much

ZoomText works as expected in both examples. The yellow on black setting does produce a very low contrast output since you end up with yellow on yellow. Both examples work the same. I think that this is more to do with the chosen background color than with the use of gradients and drop shadows. I tested with IE7 and FF 3.6.8. IE 7 does not appear to support either the gradient or the drop shadows.

Michael, thanks so much for taking the time to look at this.

I have added a third test to the page which uses neither the gradient
nor the drop shadow. Does that 3rd one invert well?

If not, is there a page somewhere where I can learn about what
background-foreground colour combinations will work in this context?

thanks very much,
Sandy

Yes in ZoomText with reverse video the color changes from yellow to blue. So you have white text on a blue background inside of the box. The only issue that I saw in ZoomText was using the yellow on black setting. In this case the box was two shades of yellow so contrast is pretty low. This could be an issue with any choice of background color since ZT will allow you to customize these settings. You could choose white on orange if you wanted. I just looked at preset choices. The fact that you can end up with two shades of the same color for foreground and background does not mean that the use of background colors causes problems for the users. As long as the initial contrast is within standards you will provide most users with a color set that will work with their AT they may just need to make some adjustments. The only alternative would be a black and white internet, and I don't think anyone wants that.

Hi Sandy:
I don't have Zoomtext but I do have System Access.
Using the screen magnification option of system access and the reverse
colors option, all three boxes changed from yellow to blue. I'll be
interested to hear how this works for Zoomtext. If you're interested, I
can try this out using Magic.

Hi Sandy:
After checking the page with Magic, I have to agree with Mike. While
adjusting the settings is different with each package, these packages
both work well as long as the colours chosen provide sufficient
contrast.

When I tried this using Magic, I first activated the colour enhancer.
This changed the background colour in all the boxes to blue. The text
colour remained black as it was originally. then when I accessed the
colour enhancement dialogue, I checked the invert black and white option
and the text colour changed to white. I have to say that using System
Access Magnification options are much more intuitive, but I am sure that
users would be able to get satisfactory results using their package of
choice.

David, Mike, James,

Thanks for looking at this for me, and for taking the time to tell me
what's what.

best regards,
Sandy
