I have another question regarding select lists. I'm sure you have all seen the practice in select lists where the first item in the list has not value, but instead its text attempts to put a title or name on the entire list. For example the QuickLinks list in the top right of the banner on our home page: http://www.sbctc.edu/index.aspx .

This seems a bad practice to me but would like the opinion of this group, especially screen reader users. How does a screen reader user know that the first item is not actually a choice in the list? Selecting it gets you nowhere. :(

Hello:
I have seen select and that is a known behavior people recognize but your write it does let a person think it's a choice what I found more confusing though is the search field is write after the combo and it could be presumed as a modifier on the search for cognitive disability's .

Interesting. The home page will be undergoing a redesign, so will keep that in mind.
