The US federal government has launched an initiative to streamline
and improve agency websites. From an accessibility standpoint, this
is terrific news and a welcome effort! The .Gov Reform Task Force is
conducting <http://www.usa.gov/webreform/dialogue.shtml>;The National
Dialogue on Improving Federal Websites.

An ongoing series of focused discussions on various specific aspects
of the redesign challenge is scheduled.

Tomorrow the topic is accessibility of federal web sites. Your voice
is needed, and you won't want to miss any of it!

Hope to hear from you!

I encourage everyone to go online and add your ideas, or at least vote
up or down the recommendations of others. There are many great
suggestions and those that get the most 'votes' will get greater
attention. It only takes a few minutes to sign in and vote. You can
see the accessibility related ideas at

Jared:

Thanks for the reminder! I tried to join earlier last week, but the "Join
the Community" link wasn't displaying and I couldn't find any information on
how to join. It's displaying now after trying to "Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down" an
idea.

Just as a heads up for all on this list, system feedback messages for this
site (errors, the join link, confirmation) appear in a rapidly blinking
colored text box with minimal contrast.

Cheers,
Elle

Elle-

I was very be-fuddled by this. The instructions didn't make it clear, so I thought maybe I would be able to figure out what to do when the time came up, but it didn't really work out that way. I finally pieced it all together. (I think.)

What they wanted was a specific time when people interested in a particular topic could comment and vote, to reap the benefits of synchronicity. However, the IdeaScale tool doesn't have features that support that. While I was waiting for a chat window to pop open (or something) Jared, Sharron, and Jim were apparently waiting for folks to comment or vote on existing topics or to open new ones. I had already been doing that all along, so I didn't have a whole lot more to contribute during the session.

Everyone-

It is not too late to comment! Sharron Rush pulled together a very nice list of all the ideas about or that intersect with accessibility as of this morning: http://web-reform-dialogue.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Accessibility-Focused-Dialogue-a-Thon/83831-4097 You can also find items that have been tagged with "accessibility" http://web-reform-dialogue.ideascale.com/a/ideafactory.do?mode=tag&;tag=accessibility

The Dialogue is only open through September 30, so don't dawdle!
