Subject: Invisible Made Visible - This American Life Podcast

again am going through old posts. This podcasts has created quite a bit of
controversy in the blind community and I understand that there have been
some efforts made by NGFB about portraying blind people in a light that
shows a greater degree of competency. Concerns have been raised about its
reinforcement of negative stereotypes of blind people and their ability to
overcome their disability. This has applied to several of their podcasts.

Chuck and all,
Yes, this is interesting. I've heard Ryan on a couple of episodes of This
American Life as well as the CBC show Wiretap.
To me, having more people like him whether portraying competence or
incompetnce is helpful because it makes people with disabilities seem more
real and present; people who you may encounter in an average day. This
presence helps to make the argument for accessibility as a basic right
stronger.
