Colleagues,

Our campus is making ready to convert our telephony systems to VoIP using Skype for Business. Aspects of this service will include making/receiving phone calls, voice mail, instant messaging, contact management, and other unified communication services.

Is anyone willing to share experiences with VoIP rollouts and especially Skype for Business? Are there TTY, voice-to-text, user interface, or other issues we should be on the lookout for? Anything exceptionally menacing on the horizon?

Todd,

I used it with JAWS 17 using the provided scripts and noticed that it is accessible enough. Some areas are harder to reach as the UI was created in a way that made it difficult for the JAWS scripts to interact with it.

If you have the proper JAWS scripts, it should be safe to upgrade. If not, then forget it as it does not read anything without the scripts.

I agree. The experience isn't great, but does better than any other
enterprise-level product.

I hated making actual phone calls or dialing extensions with it. I don't
know why. Maybe there's a trick I don't know about. Also, whenever
anyone would talk to me, I would get thrown into a menu. But the scripts
do help. My only other beef is if I tab past an item I want when I'm in
the main window, I can't just shift tab back.

Unfortunately, while I might have to say Skype for Business is an acceptable alternative to other similar enterprise products available, I would have to say that creating something that might be considered better would not take much. At least regarding the version of the product we are using.
